Electric bikes face long road in US

Already, electric bikes have gained acceptance gather in China, where 22 million are expected to sell this year, are attractive and you soon in Europe. In the U.S., they are still struggling to gain ground. But a growing number of analysts believe the next few years could determine if these bikes are becoming an integral part of the landscape of USA Cycling or debris, a novelty. Some encouraging signs:
• Electric Bicycle makers like Currie Technologies and Ultra Motor have reported a pickup in sales as the U.S. natural gas prices peaked curriculum vitae of over $ 4 a gallon in mid-2008."Americans are very self-centered for transportation," said Larry Pizzi, president of Currie Technologies. "The summer of 2008 was undoubtedly the first time we saw the changing of habits considerably."
• Best Buy began testing electric bicycles and scooters in 19 of its stores on the West Coast last June. Best Buy spokeswoman Kelly Groehler declined to say how the bikes are sold, but said that the aim is to see "where technology is rich future for consumers." Wal-Mart already sells electric bikes in more than 400 stores.

Running out of juice: Bay Area electric car dealerships close

Marc Korchin ratiocination he had found his mission in life: to benefit the environment and save his fellow Bay Region residents money by selling zero-emission all-electric cars. Two years later, after seething through his life savings, he was forced to close his Berkeley dealership.
And Korchin is not alone. The Bay Zone's independent electric car dealerships are in perilous shape, even as electric cars are being hailed as the next big article by major auto manufacturers. Factors including a hurting thriftiness, lower gas prices and, most notably, the cars' own limitations.
A number of dealerships, including Zap of Concord, Davis Electric Cars in Davis and EcoMotors in Santa Rosa, show up to have closed within the last two years or so. Ethical Approach Electric Vehicle Center of San Jose has settled up selling electric cars and switched to electric off-road vehicles. ELV Motors, in Santa Clara, now markets electric bikes and motor scooters to the known and sells electric car and truck fleets to campuses, corporations and cities.
