The metropolitan area offers hot and humid just a nuisance ice rinks, which means less practice. There is little exposure to be of interest to young players or funds for growth and development of talent. That all makes the contest a little small pool of players.
Clear Creek, Loose Springs and Clear Brook did not have enough players to field their own hockey teams. Then they blend three to compete in the Interscholastic Hockey League.

Roller Derby's Elite Come to Kitsap

The feel inside the Kitsap Sun Pavilion at this weekend’s Wild West Moment of decision, is akin to that of any other big sports tournament. Bright lights, boisterous crowds, the fetidness of concessions, the din of a hundred different conversations permeated by chirps of a whistle.
Only here, there’s more fishnets and phizog paint. And a beer garden.
“Since it’s not a traditional sport, I think a lot of people see it for the magical side, with the crazy costumes and silly names,” said Olympia-based Northwest roller derby blogger Thurston Horn, who was on hand among the derby masses Friday night to announce the vernissage bout of a two-day invitational featuring seven of the nation’s top-16 teams.
“There’s that segment to it on the surface,” he added. “But then once you get in, you see the athleticism and the physicality underneath. And in the end, I would say, it’s actually not all that different from most sports.”
Slaughter County Roller Vixens’ ward coach, nicknamed Phil Da Pain, agreed.
